The Tourism Work Web “Making Tourism Connections in Canada”

Approaching the tourism industry’s busiest recruiting period, job seekers, employers, and training institutions are trying to discover ways to find positions, fill positions, and promote programs. The Tourism Work Web streamlines this process. This online recruitment site matches job seekers with employers in the Canadian tourism industry, while training and educational institutions are able to post program recruitment campaigns that are searchable by job seekers.

The Tourism Work Web offers some unique features compared to other online recruitment sites. A detailed skills checklist based on National Occupational Standards allows employers to list all of the skills and qualifications that are required for a particular position, while job seekers are able to indicate all of their skills, achievements and qualifications. The result is employers and job seekers making a more targeted match.

Another feature offered by the Tourism Work Web is a virtual career job fair that allows job seekers to browse through different company profiles to get a more detailed description of registered employers. Employers also have the ability to create online recruitment campaigns if they have to fill many positions in their company or organization.

The Tourism Work Web is continually picking up momentum. Students are out looking for jobs and employers are ready to hire. The site currently has over 440 registered employers, and over 2,500 resumes have been posted. A direct link on the Canadian Tourism Exchange (CTX), the Canadian Tourism Commission’s internet based business to business network that is a key business development tool for over 5,000 tourism businesses, creates added exposure to the site. The Tourism Work Web is also a member of SkillNet.ca, which enables job seekers to automatically post their resumes from the Tourism Work Web to the Campus Work Link site, used regularly by more than 75,000 university students across Canada.

As small and large businesses are out competing for qualified staff, the Tourism Work Web is proving to be an effective recruitment tool for the tourism industry, a trend that is expected to continue in the future.
